This week
We have been learning about the Chinese New year and how it is celebrated. We sang a song about Chinese New year in music, did a dragon dance in PE and enjoyed our Chinese snack on Friday. We made Chinese dragons with cardboard tubes or by using paper chains, and also learnt how to fold paper to make a Chinese lantern. I hope you have enjoyed seeing the photos on Tapestry and chatting with your children about what they have been learning in school.
In phonics, we have covered the last alphabet sounds including “qu” and will now begin to learn about when patterns of two or three letters make a different sound e.g. “ch”.
In maths, we have been exploring squares and rectangles and enjoyed having the apparatus out for the first time in our gymnastics session.
Next week
We will cover the letter patterns “sh” and “ch” in phonics and will continue to learn new tricky words from Level 3. In maths, we will be looking at comparing numbers to 5 including learning about equal and unequal groups. We will also be thinking about birds leading up to a mini bird watch on Friday.
Could the children please bring wellies and waterproof trousers (if you have them) on Friday or if not, maybe a change of trousers/leggings in case they get muddy on the field. We do have a few spare pairs of wellies, so just let me know if you want your child to borrow school ones.
Next term (starting Feb 20th)
We would love to invite parents/grandparents in to read a story to the class. This has worked really well in previous years at the end of the day, around 2.50pm. It can be a story of choice from home, or we can choose a story at school. If you would like to take up this opportunity, please email me with some dates you are available and we can invite you in. If you would like to read, but 2.50 is not ideal, we can accommodate other times and also can accommodate reading to a smaller group if you don’t fancy the whole class! It is really good for the children to hear different models of reading aloud and to discover new books, so please come in if you can! The children feel very proud when they see their Mums and Dads in school.
Pizza Express trip 9th February
Thank you to all those who have returned their money and slips to the office. Just a reminder that the closing date for the contribution is Friday 3rd February. If you tick the permission box on ParentPay, you do not need to send the physical slip into school. Also a reminder not to order lunch for your child on that day, as they will eat the pizza they make when we get back to school at 12.
Thank you so much for your continued support,
Alice Greening
