Welcome to Class 5

We are looking forward to getting to know you all and would now like to share a few routines with you.
P.E. Kit: Must be brought into school each Monday and taken home on Friday. Girls should have an extra pair of socks when they wear tights. P.E days are Tuesday (unless swimming) and Friday.
Swimming: Children go swimming every week ( Tuesday), alternate terms. Please ensure that they have their swimming kit in school on that day. Girls must wear a swimming hat.
Reading: Your child will bring home a reading book every night. We would ask that you try to read with your child at least three times per week. If your child is a fluent reader then we would still be obliged if you initial their record of reading undertaken at home.
Homework: Will be set in accordance with the homework policy. Homework is set on Wednesday. It is always due in on the Tuesday after it is set. It is usually English and Maths. Spellings will be given weekly and children will be tested on these every Tuesday. The children will also have timetables to practice. These will be tested every Tuesday. Every fortnight, children will carry out some arithmetic questions (7/8 questions) and once a term they will complete a longer set of questions.
All homework will be set on google classroom.
Last, but not least, please do not hesitate to email us if you have any concerns or worries. Our aim is to make the transition from Class 4 to Class 5 as smooth and as easy as possible for all the children so that they continue to be happy and enthusiastic learners at St. John’s.
