Welcome to Reception

Class Teacher: Jo Bentley (jbentley@stjohnsprimary.org)

Teaching Assistants: Nicky Warrener and Julie Knife (mornings)

We are looking forward to getting to know you all and would now like to share a few routines with you that we will be introducing to the children.

P.E. Kit: This should be brought into school from the start. Even though we won’t start changing for PE until after half term, it is useful to have this as a change of clothes if needed. If children are wearing tights in school, they should have a pair of socks in their PE bag to change into. Please also add spare underwear in a small plastic bag in case of accidents.

Book Bags: These should be brought to school each day and put in their trays.

Reading: Reading books or related activities will be sent out after the first few weeks. They will be changed twice per week on Mondays and Fridays. Please return the books and folder to school everyday.

Water Bottles: We encourage the children to drink water regularly so please provide a named water bottle for them to bring each day. They may only drink water from these – no flavoured drinks please.

Phonics: We will send a sound mat home for you to reinforce sounds at home. Resources and websites to increase your child’s phonic knowledge will be sent home at different intervals over the year.

Tricky words: These will help your child to learn sight vocabulary needed in reading. A list will be sent home.

Going Home: To ensure the safety of your child please inform us, in the morning or via email, if your child will be going home with somebody different than usual.

Newsletter: A class weekly newsletter will be published on a Friday afternoon on this website. This will provide information of our learning intentions each week, as well as providing essential reminders of what is happening in class.

Tapestry: We use Tapestry to record your child’s learning journey. Please add to this – you could let us know when your child achieves something at home, or comment on their learning at school.

We look forward to working with you and your children.
