This week
We have come to the end of learning new patterns in Phase 3 phonics and have been practising writing sentences with full stops. In maths we have been looking at ordering numbers and re-ordering if they have been muddled up. In music this week, we played the glockenspiels along with “Row Row your boat” and in PE we made balances with a partner using the gym mats.
Next week
We will have an Easter theme week with lots of fun activities. We won’t hear the children read in school next week, as we will do some small assessments to see their progress this term and I will check books on Monday and WEDNESDAY. Friday is an INSET day so the children are not in school.
Reading
We will assess the children on their phonic patterns from level 2 and 3 next week and maybe continue in the week after the holidays. We will remove most of the letter cards from the children’s folders and just leave in any they don’t know to continue practising. We may also put tricky words on cards if we feel they would benefit from this. if your child knows most of the tricky words we have covered in school, please feel free to have a look at the rest from Level 3 so that the children are familiar with them. The tricky words have been introduced more slowly in this new scheme than previously so they may be encountering them in their reading books before we have covered them in class.
Next term’s phonics lessons recap all the Level 3 patterns in different contexts, so there are no new patterns to learn-we just go over blending and segmenting using the patterns.
Lunches request from the kitchen
When you book lunches on parentpay, could you please talk through the choices with your child or let them know what they are having for lunch on any particular day so that they know when they get to the hatch. Lots of children are saying that they don’t like the meal ordered and are asking to have a different option once they see it but there is no scope for this once they are at the hatch. Thank you!
