Reception Newsletter 17.05.19

This week
We have looked at the “or” sound in phonics, and have been using it in our reading and writing. We have had a big focus on tricky word reading and spelling this week consolidating Phase 2 and learning Phase 3. Some children are starting on Phase 4 and have been given new bookmarks. This range is normal towards the end of Reception, so please continue to encourage your child at their level.

In maths sessions, we have been assessing the children’s knowledge of numbers to 20, including ordering and knowing one more and one less, ready for their next steps after half term.

Every child has completed a writing and a maths challenge and their work is displayed in the classroom if you would like to come and have a look.

Ways to support your child’s learning this week:

Please continue to support with reading-thank you. Don’t forget the tricky word bookmarks alongside any books your child is reading. Thank you.

Please go over the Phase 3 phonics and tricky words attached on last week’s newsletter on the website between now and the end of half term. Most children should now know all the Phase 3 tricky words and most of the phonic patterns, but they may need to practise a few times a week to consolidate what we have been learning at school.

Notices

• There are still 5 permission slips and money outstanding for our trip to the British Wildlife Centre on Tuesday 4th June. Please return them as soon as possible.
• Please can all children have a full, fresh water bottle in school each day as the weather is getting warmer, but also a waterproof coat in case of unexpected showers! Thanks- we did need them today!
• The Reception children will all have their hearing and vision checked by NHS school nurses on the morning of the 12th June. If you think your child may not be at school for any reason on that day, please contact your GP to let them know and make other arrangements.

Milk Reminder

If your child is now 5 and still wishes to have milk at school, you do need to pay for it, as milk is only provided by the government to 4 year olds. Please register and pay at:
