This week
Harvest Festival was a lovely celebration and I was so proud of all the children in church. Thanks once again for your generous donations for the Food bank.
We have been to singing assembly this week and are now fully integrated into school life. The buddies have obviously been a great support for the children in the first few weeks, but they are now relying on them less and although they are still there, we are encouraging the children to be more independent at playtimes and play with their own class more. We still read every week with our buddies and do lots of special activities, so this relationship remains important through the year, even if the dynamics slightly change.
In phonics we have looked at splitting words when saying them and blending them back together in the context of lots of games e.g. point to your f-ee-t, make a noise like a c-a-t.
In maths, we have been looking at how the quantity of something doesn’t change even when the arrangement of the items may change, looking at numbers 1-10 and their representations.
Next week
We will begin Phase 2 phonics with learning how to read, write and recognise the letters s, a and t.
In maths, we will continue to use the numbers 1-10 and explore different representations.
Thursday 17th-PTA Film night (see separate email)
Every year a group of children from Beacon Academy go the Gambia to support projects in schools and nurseries. There is a big fundraising campaign and all the local primary schools are asked to get involved. Next Friday 18th October, your child may come to school in non -school uniform wearing the colours of the Gambia flag (blue, green and red). They don’t have to wear all three and it is not really strict, so some of one colour is fine! Please bring a £1 contribution or some pens and pencils to be used in the schools there.
Parents evenings coming up
“How to support your child with their learning” will take place on Thursday 17th October at 7pm in the Reception classroom. This will explain how to support your child with their school reading books and how to interact and use Tapestry to support your child. There will also be time for any questions you may have about the first few weeks in school. -If you are unable to attend, please let me know and I can email you any information. I am sorry this clashes with the PTA Film night.
School parents evening: This will take place on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd October in the hall. Parents have a 10 minute slot with me to discuss how your child has settled in and to raise any questions or queries you may have. Please sign up for a time slot as per the instructions on Mrs Cooper’s email. Thanks.
