This week

We have looked at the “er” sound made as ER and UR and have been using it in our reading and writing. Most children are starting to write in a sentence now, which is the expectation by the end of the year, so we are supporting the children with that during our phonics and writing sessions. In maths, we have been looking at halving and sharing in larger groups and beginning to record this.

PHASE 3 MAT

between now and the end of half term. Most children should now know all the Phase 3 tricky words and most of the phonic patterns, but they may need to practise a few times a week to consolidate what we have been learning at school.

Next week

  • We will look at ar and or in phonics, and begin to record addition and subtraction using a number track.
  • Please return permission slips and money as soon as possible for our trip to the British Wildlife Centre on Tuesday 4th June. If you are able to help on this trip, please let me know. You will need a current DBS check from St Johns School (they are not transferable-sorry)
  • Please can all children have a full, fresh water bottle in school each day as the weather is getting warmer, but also a waterproof coat in case of unexpected showers! Thanks.
  • The Reception children will all have their hearing and vision checked by NHS school nurses on the morning of the 12th June. If you think your child may not be at school for any reason on that day, please contact your GP to let them know and make other arrangements.

Milk Reminder

If your child is now 5 and still wishes to have milk at school, you do need to pay for it, as milk is only provided by the government to 4 year olds. Please register and pay at:

Please let me know when you have done so, so I can make sure they are getting it each day. We do have lots of 5 year olds in the class who are asking for milk, but as we haven’t heard from parents that they have paid, it can be quite sad for them when we have to say no!
