This week

We have started Level 4 phonics! This is the first time we have covered this in Reception, so it’s great that we have got this far. Level 4 doesn’t have any new sounds, but it covers times when there are two consonants next to each other and the sounds blend closely, e.g. the st at the start of steep and the nd at the end of sand. It can be really hard to hear each sound separately when working out how to spell a word, so we spend a little bit of time on this before moving on to Year One. There are also a set of new tricky words.
In maths we have been thinking about sharing amounts between 2 and 4 people and how sometimes we have one spare! In PE, the children have been improving their control over large balls when dribbling and in computing, they looked at using the shift key to make a capital letter when writing their names.

Next week

We will think about odd and even numbers and continue with Level 4 phonics, learning more tricky words.

Notices

*Sun cream should be applied in the morning before school on hot days. If you feel your child needs to reapply cream, then it should be named and should be easy for the child to apply by themselves, e.g. a rollable version. Hats should also be named please. There is plenty of shade on our school field and children are encouraged to go into the shade if they are looking or feeling hot. They also have access to their water bottle during the day.

Thanks for all your support as always,

Mrs Greening
