Mathematics
At St Johns, we aim to provide a high quality mathematics education using the White Rose Maths scheme of learning that we adapt to suit the needs of the children in our class. We adopt a mastery approach to help all children achieve excellence in maths. Mastery is an approach to teaching and learning that aims for children to develop a deep understanding of maths. There is a balance of fluency, reasoning and problem solving within lessons and access to concrete resources to support learning. Children are encouraged to apply their mathematical skills to real life concrete contexts and to make cross curricular links.
We are also subscribed to lots of other resources that are used as part of homework and to support learning at home:
MyMaths – All children in KS2 have an individual log in and tasks are regularly set as part of homework. Children also have access to other lessons, games and activities to support their maths learning.
NumBots – Children in KS1 have individual access to NumBots. NumBots is all about every child achieving the “triple win” of understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction, so that they move from counting to calculating.
TTRockstars – KS2 children have access to Times Table Rockstars, a a maths programme that takes all the worry out of learning times tables and has a proven track record of boosting children’s fluency and recall in multiplication and division.
