The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) applies to children from birth to the end of the reception year. In our school, all children usually join us at the beginning of the school year in which they are five – our Reception class.

Our EYFS curriculum aims to provide motivating first-hand experiences whilst encouraging children to build resilience and a lifelong love of learning. We aim to build on the wealth of knowledge and skills children already have when they arrive at our school.

The EYFS curriculum is divided up into Seven Areas of Learning and Development, which are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
  • Communication and Language (C+L)
  • Physical Development (PD)
  • Literacy (L)
  • Mathematics (M)
  • Understanding the World (UTW)
  • Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
