This week
In phonics, we have been recapping Level 3 sounds and have been challenging the children in reading longer sentences. Most of the children are also writing more than one sentence during our writing sessions now. This week, we have been assessing the children on their tricky words as we will move on to Level 4 tricky words after the half-term break. I will also personally hear all the children read over the course of the next few weeks to ensure they are at the right level and are making good progress. If you have any particular comments about your child’s reading, please add them to the yellow record this week and I can answer any queries.
We have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties. We have looked at spheres, cubes, cuboids, cylinders and cones, and the shape of their faces. We have been exploring whether they roll or stack. Children can find it really hard to distinguish between 2 and 3D shapes, for example they often say a sphere is a circle, or a cube is a square. A shape hunt around your house for 3D shapes might be fun this weekend if you are at a loose end!
It has been a rather muddled week as Year 6 have been doing SATS and this has an impact on the noise we can make around the school and where we can go to do our learning. This meant that we only did a mini PE lesson this week and didn’t go to the computer suite or the music room.
Next week
We will continue to learn about shapes alongside number bonds practice. In phonics, we are re-capping the Level 3 sounds in writing words and sentences. We will carry on with our ball skills in PE and go to the computer suite altogether to use a simple text writing program. We are learning about plants this term and hope to plant some cress heads!

*Please ensure the children have a coat in school every day. This can be a small waterproof that is kept in their book bag-just for the times when the showers come down unexpectedly!
*We are running low on snacks again. Many of you have been very generous in keeping us stocked up! If you haven’t yet donated, a packet of plain rice cakes or crackers would be great thanks.
*We had a lot of Tapestry pictures from the Easter holidays and then the two bank holidays and we are working our way through them! We love seeing them and the children are so keen to share them-I’m sorry that it’s taking a while to get through them.
