This week
We have looked at rhyming words in phonics and read lots of rhyming books. We have also looked at nursery rhymes and songs and made up silly rhymes. Being able to make up a rhyming string of words (they don’t have to be real words), such as cat, bat, rat, mat, splat, really helps children to master spelling patterns as they learn to read and write, so any help with this at home is great.
In maths we have looked at sorting items, shapes and numbers into groups and really enjoyed our Autumn maths on the field.
Mrs Cooper came to do an assembly in our classroom for us on Harvest Festival and the children listened well and asked some interesting questions. Thank you for all your donations for the foodbank on Friday.
Next week
We will be looking at the initial sound in words for phonics and comparing amounts in maths. We are also hoping to do some art with the leaves we found.
Home learning
Please encourage your child to complete Week 2 in the phonics books over the course of this week. Thanks for the feedback. I am glad they are enjoying completing the activities.
I have generated logins for two online programs that are useful in Reception: Teach your monster to read and Numbots. I will send the individual login letters home in time for you to explore these with your child over half term and give a bit more information next week. Please don’t sign your child up yet-wait for the school login letter as it is difficult to move their progress to a different account once they have started. The benefit of using the school account is that I can track their progress and change levels and games etc centrally for them. Thanks.
Parents evenings
We would usually hold a parents evening near half term, but with the Covid restrictions still in place we are not able to invite parents into school. We are going to phone all parents for a 10 minute chat instead over the next few weeks, and although not ideal, this will give us an opportunity to let you know how we think your child has settled and for you to ask any questions. I will let you know the exact times for this when we have confirmed the telephone line timetable at school. We will attempt to phone several times to make contact with everyone, so please don’t feel you have to be hovering by the phone! We will phone the primary carer as noted on the admission forms, so please let me know if this doesn’t suit your circumstances or if your details have changed.
As always, thanks for your support with the children’s learning at home and school, especially the comments and uploads on Tapestry. It really helps us to build a wider picture of their progress and see their interests outside school.
