Reception Newsletter 06.03.20

This week

Thanks for all your support with World Book Day dressing up today and for all the amazing potato creations! The children had a great day and I will put some photos on Tapestry for you to see.

We also had a wonderful afternoon on Tuesday when Dominic’s Mum came in to show the class her artwork and for them to have a go with chalk pastels. I hope they were all inspired by her talk and demonstration.

This week in phonics, we have looked at the long ai sound in spelling and reading and have been practising writing the Phase 2 and 3 tricky words in sentences.  In maths, we have looked at combining two numbers by playing games with two dice and adding the spots together. If you want to support this learning at home, playing a board game using two dice is a great way of starting to understand the concept of addition.

Next Week

We will be doing some activities around Science Week. On Monday and Friday afternoon next week and the week after, the children will be grouped across the school and will experience a range of activities in different classrooms on a rotation. The children have been placed with their buddies or siblings for support, and I know they will really enjoy the range of different things on offer all around the theme of Diversity.

Notices

  • Milk Reminder: Milk is provided for children who are four from the government. If your child has already turned 5 (or is due to this month) and would still like milk, please register and pay at: coolmilk.com and then email me to let me know, as the list from the milk company often takes a while to be updated.
  • Tricky words are now stuck in the back of the reading records, as well as on the bookmarks, just for ease of reference at home and school. The expected level at the end of Reception is that children can read all of Phase 2 and 3 and some of Phase 4 tricky words. (Phase 5 is encountered in Year One).

Of course, children progress at different stages and at different paces, so some will need further support with this and others will exceed. Please let me know if you have any queries about reading with your child.
