Reception Newsletter 22.11.2019
This week
In phonics, we have looked at the letters k, ck e and u and have been practising blending and segmenting three letter words. Next week the children will start to encounter our tricky words-words that cannot be worked out by phonics and have to be learnt by sight. If we feel they are ready, they may bring a “Tricky Word Bookmark” home alongside their reading book or sounds. We will start with “I” and “the”.
As part of our topic, we looked at the Hindu festival of Diwali this week and continued to do dance in our PE session. Some of the children had their first session in the computer room and the others will have the chance to go over the next two weeks.
The children have enjoyed having Mrs Playford this week and have coped with the changes in routine well.
Next week
For the next two weeks the children’s routines will be different as we begin to rehearse on the stage for our Nativity production. We will try to keep the structure of the day the same as far as we can, but we have found in the past that the changes towards Christmas can make some children feel very tired or unsettled in their behaviour. Please keep us informed if you feel this is affecting your child and likewise we will let you know if we feel your child is struggling. As with everything, some children take change in their stride and are not affected at all, but I felt it was worth letting you know how we have found things in previous years.
There may not be as many Tapestry observations over the next few weeks either as we spend time in the hall rehearsing during the afternoons, when the children often have their independent time. Structured learning activities will still take place in the morning and the learning from these activities is often recorded in their learning books or on written record sheets.
Notices
- Library books should be returned on Wednesdays now please. Next week will be our last library visit this term. We will collect the books back in on WEDNESDAY 4th
- Nativity costumes need to be in school by Monday 2nd December please as explained on the letter in the children’s book bags. All the boys need a brown or black t shirt and brown or black trousers/leggings or tights as they will be camels. The girls all have school angel costumes so don’t need to bring anything in.
- A letter will go home next week asking you to request tickets for either the Nativity performance on Tuesday 10th December at 2pm or Wednesday 11th December at 9.30am. You may request up to two tickets overall as space in the hall is quite tight. Any spare tickets then go to Class Two as it is their last Nativity play.
Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or queries: ag@stjohnsprimary.org
Have a great weekend with your families,
