This week
In phonics we have learnt the first four letters in Phase 2: s a t p. The children should now be able to recognise, write and make the sound for these letters. This is a great start and all the children have risen to the challenges we have set them. We are continually assessing children throughout these sessions, so they will get more adult support if it is thought appropriate; or if they need extending, we will give extra challenges to those children within the scope of our daily whole class teaching.
In maths, we have continued to explore the numbers 1-10 and their different representations by experimenting with cubes and the variety of shapes we can make with differing numbers of blocks, even though the number of blocks stays the same.
Thank you so much for coming to the meeting on Thursday evening about how to support your child’s learning-it was lovely to see so many of you there. I hope you found it useful. If you have any questions arising from the information given please ask at parents evening next week. If you were unable to attend, the PowerPoint presentation is on the Reception home page on the school website, and I will give out the paper information at parents evening.
Next week
We will move on to the letters i, n, m and d and start to blend and segment the sounds for reading and spelling.
In maths, we will be looking at comparing sets and sorting objects according to different criteria.
The flu sprays will be administered by the school nurse team on Friday morning for those children who have sent the forms back.
I look forward to meeting with you at parents evening on Tuesday or Wednesday. This will be an opportunity for us to discuss how your child has settled in and what we feel the next steps in their learning should be. Please also bring any questions or queries you have about school life so far, however large or small.
