Reception Newsletter 07.06.19
This week
It has been a very busy week! We had a great time at the British Wildlife centre and the children learned so many amazing facts! I hope they shared how much they had enjoyed it with you. They have brought home a voucher in their book bags so maybe you could plan a family visit during the Summer holidays?
We have been looking at adding and taking away on a number line; telling little stories and working out which way to move along to find the answer. (e.g A bus was driving along the road with ten passengers on. It stopped in the town and two people got off. Can you use your number line to show how you could work that out?)
In our literacy lessons, we have been focusing on reading and writing sentences using tricky words and the patterns we have learned.
Ways to support your child’s learning this week:
Please continue to support with reading-thank you. Don’t forget the tricky word bookmarks alongside any books your child is reading. Children make best progress if they are reading little and often-daily is desirable but three times a week is fine. Two or three pages with a chat about what is happening in the story is enough to keep your child interested and motivated. You can always read the rest of the story to them, or read alternate pages if their motivation is flagging, but it should be a fun positive experience for the children and you.
Next week
The children will have the option to make a Father’s Day card next week. I know this can be sensitive for some families, so please email me if you would like your child to make a different card to another relative or a birthday card for someone etc. They will write any messages one to one with and adult so this will be dealt with sensitively with them in the classroom, according to your wishes.
Notices
• The children managed really well with the change of teacher this week. Mrs Playford really enjoyed her time with the class and looks forward to seeing them again.
• Don’t forget the Summer Fair tomorrow 12-3.
• A separate sports day letter has been emailed out this week. Please ensure your child has a full kit, water bottle and sun hat for next Friday, including well-fitting PE shoes!
• Don’t forget to pay for milk if your child is 5 now and wishes to continue having milk.

Future events
• Our new parents evening for next year’s class is on Thursday 4th July at 7pm. I thought it would be really nice to have some current Reception parents there to chat to the new parents and for them to ask any questions. I won’t put you on the spot to do a speech (and you may even get a small glass of wine)! Please let me know if you feel this is something you would like to do. Thanks.
• Reception have been invited to do a class assembly to share their learning with the school on Monday 15th July at 2.45pm. Parents and family are warmly invited. It will take place in the hall.
