Thank you for the amazing learning you shared on Tapestry over the half term break. The children have been sharing their learning with the class and I have been assessing their speaking skills. Once your child has shared their learning, I will edit the observation you did to add their words about what they shared. Some children have also written about the week in their writing books, so I have added pictures of this too.
This week
- We have looked at x, y and z and have been practising blending and segmenting. We have also looked at the new tricky words for Phase 3 and are focusing on he, she, me, we and be. If your child is confident in the Phase 2 tricky words, they should be bringing home Phase 3 tricky word bookmark this week.
- In maths, we have been looking at one more and one less in numbers to 20.
- The children’s mouse skills are really improving and they played Pirate Treasure by themselves on the computers this week.
- In PE, we have started to look at skills needed for team games and in music we explored the high and low notes on a xylophone.
Ways to support your child’s learning this week:
- Write out the numbers to 20 in a line. Ask your child to find a particular number and put their finger on it. Then ask them to find one more or one less than the number given.
- Support-Only use numbers to 10
- Extend-Ask your child to find 2 more or 2 less than the number you give them.
Milk scheme
All children in state funded schools are offered milk up until to the age of 5. We have been offering milk to all of Reception class, which was working fine, but now our order is dropping as more children are turning 5, we don’t have enough milk to go around all the children that would like it. As from next week 11th March, we will only be able to offer milk to those children who are still 4. If you would like your child to continue to have milk, please register and pay for it here:
We will then be issued with a list of children that have paid, so we can distribute the milk fairly. It would also be useful if you could email me and let me know that you have paid, just in case the message doesn’t get through from the milk company in time. Thank you. There is no obligation to have milk and pay; the children will still have access to their water bottles after every playtime.

- Thank you to Ted’s Dad and Bella’s Mum who have been in to share a story with us this week. If this is something you would like to do, please let me know when you are available and we can arrange it.
- Even if the weather seems warm and dry, can all children still have a small waterproof coat please ; even if it is a fold-up one that stays in their bag. This week we had some children without coats and we do always try to go outside for a little while even in the rain! Thanks.
- Each week we are finding that only about half the children have brought back a library book, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to fit in visits to the library now that we are hearing the children read individually every afternoon. We were wondering if there was a parent who might like to take over the library book monitoring one afternoon each week. Please let me know if you are able to support us with this.
