This week the children have learnt four new phonemes i, n, m and d. They are bringing the flashcards home today. We have begun practising the skill of blending the sounds we know to read words in our phonics lessons each day and are practising letter formation every day too.

One of our stories this week was Owl babies, we used the story to think about where our loved ones are when we are apart. We talked about when we might need to feel brave. We discussed the characters and drew Owls, listening for the inital sounds and writing them down. We made Owls from collage and ordered the owls by size. In maths we compared size, mass and capacity, having lots of fun being human scales and making potions outside.

We continued to think about the same and different, looking at what makes each person unique and different to others and talked about being special. Everyone created a fantastic self portrait and we have displayed them on our classroom wall. Thank you for completing the stars at home with your child, we have been sharing them with the class and have begun to link these discussions to our Christian vaues. If you haven’t had the chance to do this yet, please do, it’s not too late!

Next week we will visit the church on Wednesday with our year 6 buddies for the Harvest Festival. In preparation we have been singing some Harvest songs and yesterday we attended our first assembly, a singing assembly with year 1 and 2. Lastly, a quick reminder, please remember to order lunch for your children each week, this avoids any confusion or upset at lunchtime.

Thank you for your support, have a wonderful weeked,

Jo Bentley
