Thank you to everyone who attended the parents information evening this week. I hope it was informative and gave you a useful overview of the learning that will take place during your child’s reception year.
This week we visited the school library and the children chose a book to take home. As discussed during the parents information evening, this is to encourage a love of reading for pleasure, please share the book with your child and return it next week, so that they may exchange it for another. We also began our daily phonics lessons. The children have learnt the sounds for s, a, t and p. They are bringing home today a piece of paper which shows the mnemonic for each sound. For each sound learnt there is also an action and the pictures act as a prompt for these actions and sounds. We have also begun our whole class maths lessons, during which we have been matching and sorting items from the classroom. We had fun in the hall on Wednesday during a short p.e. session. As this was our first lesson we didn’t change our clothes, just our shoes (if they had some) and we explored different ways of moving and using the space around us. If you haven’t already done so, please send in a p.e. kit for your child as we will now build upon this great start, p.e. will be on a Wednesday morning.
Next week we will be going to church on Wednesday morning for the Harvest Festival celebrations. We have been learning harvest songs with year 1 and year 2 and so will be able to join in with the singing. The children will be sitting with their buddies in the church, which I think they are looking forward to. The service is at 9am, so it would be helpful if the children arrived at school in plenty of time on Wednesday.
Thank you for your support, have a wonderful weekend,
Jo Bentley
