Another busy week over already! This week in phonics we learnt the digraphs sh, th (voiced and unvoiced) and ng. The flashcards for these will have gone home with your child today. Please keep reading at home and don’t forget to write in your child’s reading record when you listen to them, thank you.
In maths we explored and compared capacity and mass, which involved lots of water play, as well as experimenting with loose parts and finding the balance using scales in the classroom. We also explored floating and sinking this week, using the junk modelling to make boats outside and rescuing the bears from the water in the tuff tray inside.
Our school is taking part in the RSPB Big Schools’ Birdwatch and we have started to learn about the birds we might see in our gardens. We had a go at drawing some birds and made bird feeders which we will hang outside. We are planning to go outside and carry out our very own birdwatch, but unfortunately the weather was not on our side this week.
In music we explored rhythm, using our bodies to create different patterns and in dance we created our own movements, inspired by undersea creatures which we put together to create a whole class sequence using the count of eight.
Next week we will be learning about Lunar New Year celebrations, also known as the Chinese New Year, which falls on Wednesday and on Monday reception class health screening will be taking place. Please also note that when the children arrive in the morning they have a couple of morning tasks to carry out and I do try to begin our first carpet time of the day as close to 9am as possible, so if all children could be in by 8.50, enabling a prompt start to the day, that would be really great. An early start on a Wednesday is particularly useful as we have p.e. first thing and we do try to have everyone changed and ready by 9.10, thank you.
