An igloo appeared in our role play area this week. The children have been learning about the polar regions on our planet and became polar explorers! When the igloo tumbled down we had great fun building it again (not always back into an igloo!) We have drawn igloos and wondered how a home made of snow can keep you warm. We have read non-fiction books about the animals who live there and fiction books set in cold snowy places. We especially enjoyed ‘Lost and Found’ and drew the characters and labelled our work. We had slip and slide penguins in our tuff tray and created some lovely snow pictures and more wonderful penguins using paper and glue.

In phonics we learned four new digraphs (two letters working together as partners to make one sound), sh, th, th and ng. The flashcards for these have come home in bookbags. We have also learnt three new tricky words, we, me and be. In maths we have been exploring capacity and mass. In p.e. this term we will be learning dance, this week we began by learning to move our bodies to the count of 8. In R.E. we learnt the bible story ‘Jesus calms the storm’ and had great fun acting it out and in music we have been learning to match our pitch with accuracy when singing a lullaby.
