This week in reception we have been talking about the changing seasons and looking for signs of spring. We have observed, painted and drawn daffodils and made daffodils from egg boxes and card. We have talked about Mothering Sunday and everyone has made a Mothers Day card for their mummy, they may have hidden it somewhere at home ready to surprise you on Sunday, but if not, please check your child’s book bag!

In phonics we have learnt our last two level 3 sounds, ‘ure’ (pure, cure, manure) and ‘er’ (pepper, perm, ladder). The flashcards for these have been sent home today. Next week we will be consolidating what we know, practising the sounds we have learnt, reading and writing words using the sounds they know, as well as continuing to practise reading our tricky words, those words that we cannot de-code using sounds.

In maths we have starting investigating number bonds to ten. We have been sharing ten into two groups (for example, 10 frogs between 2 ponds, 10 horses between 2 fields, 10 cars between 2 garages) and recording how many different ways we can do it. This will continue into next week.

In P.E. we learnt 5 new balance shapes and practised holding these positions on a mat for 8 seconds. In music we have been learning to hear draw and sing melody shapes.

Lastly, it is necessary for me to repeat my plea, that if your child has gone home in any of our spare clothing items, we desperately need them to be washed and returned to us. Thank you for your support,
