This week we have been learning about autumn and reading the book ‘Leaf man’, on Monday afternoon we went onto the field in our wellington boots to collect autumn treasure. We then used all the beautiful leaves we collected to make our own leaf art throughout the week. We have learnt four new sounds, g, o, c, k and these are in your child’s book bag to practice at home. Today I gave the children their reading folders with flashcards representing the twelve sounds they have learnt so far. Please practice these at home with your child. Over the next couple of weeks we will be focusing on segmenting and blending and once your child is secure in their sounds and blending them to read words, we can start to send home reading books.

We have continued to discuss what makes us special and the children have a star in their book bags to complete with you. We would like you to discuss and jot down something your child is particularly good at, we will then share these with the class (your child can draw a picture if they want to). In maths we continued our work on repeating patterns and our new learning was subitising and representing numbers 1-3.

We had p.e. on Wednesday and everyone changed into their p.e. kit for the first time. They did brilliantly! It took a while so the lesson was short, but we had fun. Any encouragement and help you can give at home to enable your child to become independent with dressing and undressing would be much appreciated. It would also be really helpful if you could label your child’s p.e. bag with their name on the outside of the bag, so we are able to quickly identify belongings.

Next week we will continue to talk about autumn, so please do look for the signs with them when you are outside, have they noticed how it gets dark earlier in the evening? Next week we will be discussing hibernation and we have a visitor coming in on Friday who is preparing to hibernate…Flo the tortoise!

Next week I am away from school on Thursday attending a conference and the class will be covered by Mr Hodges and Mrs Cooper.
