This week in phonics, we have been segmenting words to write them on our whiteboards and writing short captions and sentences. We have been remembering to use finger spaces and checking our work by reading back what we have written. With a little help from MC Grammar, we have learnt which letters are called vowels, we spotted them in words and wrote the vowel letters and our tricky words in foam. In maths we returned to numbers 11-19, looking at the pattern of one full ten and how many more of the next ten and practised counting past twenty.

We read ‘Cyril the lonely cloud’ and talked about the changing seasons and the importance of rain, we considered the question “does it rain in summer?” What a great week of changing weather we had in which to observe and notice what is happening. Our plants (tomatoes, beans and wild flowers) are getting lots of sun and rain and growing well. Thank you for sharing the pictures of your beans growing well at home, we have really enjoyed looking at these.

In p.e. we played some team games. We focused on following instructions, playing by the rules and turn taking in teams, in preparation for sports day later this term.

We are all very excited for our class trip on Monday. The weather looks perfect, warm, sunny and dry. The children should wear their St Johns school t-shirt and jumper along with leggings, shorts or jogging bottoms and must bring a water bottle. If the forecast changes please do send them with a waterproof coat or sun hat and cream applied, as appropriate for the day ahead. Please can you ensure your child arrives in school nice and early, 8.45 ideally, so that we have plenty of time to take the register and visit the toilet e.t.c. before boarding the coach.
