This week in reception class we have been learning about the Lunar New Year. Our role play area became a Chinese restaurant, we made lanterns and paper dragons, had a go at dragon dancing and tasted some prawn crackers. In phonics we have learnt two new sounds ‘ow’ (cow, bow, down) and ‘oi’ (coin, soil, boil) as well as a new tricky word ‘here’. In maths we have been measuring and comparing length and height as well as using our ‘adding machine’ to find out how many there are altogether.

In R.E we are begnning to learn about the Easter story, this week we learnt about palm Sunday. The children acted out the story of Jesus entering Jerulsalum on a donkey with Mrs Blakeley and Mrs Warrener (Mrs Warrener was a fantastic donkey!) In P.E. we are beginning our gymnastics unit, this week we learnt how to hold our balance in different gymnastics shapes, such as the star, tuck and straddle.

Next week is world book day. We will be celebrating this at St Johns on Wednesday, we can’t wait to see the children in their costumes and are looking forward to lots of story book fun.

Reminders: Please can you remember to order lunch for your child, on Monday of this week we had a large number of our class who did not have a lunch ordered for them. Also, if we have sent your child home in a clean/dry item of clothing or underwear from our supply please do send it back to school once it’s been washed, unfortunately our spare box is completely empty again. Can I ask that all children have a spare pair of underwear kept in school, even if your child is not normally prone to accidents.

Lastly, we have received a concern regarding vehicles travelling too quickly during busy times outside school. We would like to remind everyone who drives down School Lane to do so slowly and carefully when approaching and leaving school. The safety of our children and families is always our highest priority.
