This week our Polar Explorer theme continued. We have had lots of fun building in the role play area. We also explored floating and sinking and made paper boats. In dance we moved our bodies like sea creatures and learnt a sequence to “under the sea” music. In music we explored pitch with our voices and continued to learn the actions and words to a lullaby.

In phonics we learnt two new sounds, ‘ai’ (aim, wait, tail) and ‘ee’ (teeth, meet, queen). We pracised reading and writing words with these digraphs in. When reading with your child it can be helpful to spot the digraphs in words first (we draw a line under them) to show that the two letters together make a different sound. This can be tricky initially as they are so used to sounding out each letter individaully and now have to learn that when these letters work together ‘as partners’ they make a new sound. In maths we have explored capacity some more (whilst engaging in lots of water play) as well as finding and representing the numbers, 6, 7 and 8.

Recently we have had lots of small toys being brought into school, this can cause problems between children on the playground and in the classroom, especially if they get lost. We have also had to remove jewellrey for P.E. Please can I ask that jewellrey and home toys stay at home, thank you. We have limited space for personal storage, each child has their own peg for their coat and P.E. bag. Their book bag, containing their reading wallet, fits snugly in their tray. If these are overfilled or the area becomes congested it becomes harder for the children to be independent in looking after their own belongings.
