This week we continued to talk about celebrations, we are learning that people celebrate in different ways and many celebrations use light to make them special. We read the book ‘Little Glow’ then drew and labelled pictures. We used crayon to draw and then painted over with water colours to make the dark sky, experimenting and noticing how the wax repelled the paints, and the lights we had drawn shone through. We practised our songs for the nativity performance and began to learn the story of Christmas, thinking about the big question ‘Why do Christians perform nativity plays at Christmas time?’

In phonics we have been reading and writing CVC words and recapped letter formation for some of the earlier sounds we learnt right at the beginning. We practised writing these sounds again, using the mnemonic to help us remember the correct formation. We have now finished level 2 and will be moving onto level 3 next week, learning j, v, w and x.

In maths we have been looking at the composition of 5. We have been finding different ways to partition 5 into smaller numbers and representing these smaller parts with manipulatives and through mark making whilst talking about the parts we can see.

Reception class are going to be stars in the Christmas nativity. For this they will need to wear a black top and some black trousers. Please could you send in to school a named black top and bottom for your child in a named carrier bag. We will then keep them in school until the performance, which will be upon us before we know it! They are going to be fantastic stars!

Please also note, we have now completely run out of spare underwear, if you have any that have come home with your child, we’d be grateful if they could make their way back to school.
