We thoroughly enjoyed our walk to St John’s pre-school this morning to see the duck eggs in the incubator, it was made even more enjoyable as there was a little surprise waiting for us. Amongst the duck eggs there was a baby chick! One of the eggs was not a duck egg and it hatched last night. All the children got to hold the baby chick. We will visit again once the ducklings have hatched. In the classroom we learnt about the life cycle of a duck. We thought about the egg in the context of new life and Easter, learning that we will build upon as we approach the Christian celebration of Easter.

In phonics we learnt two new trigraphs ‘ear’ and ‘air’ (tear, fear, beard, fair, pair, chair) as well as two new tricky words, ‘all’ and ‘are’. Next week we will learn our last two sounds, then we will be focused on revising and consolidating this learning, practising segmenting words to hear the sounds we know and write them to form words, captions and sentences.

In maths we continued to be ‘super subitisers’ as well as practising combining two amounts to decide how many there are altogether.

In p.e. we remembered the importance of keeping control of the ball as we bounced it and worked collaboratively with others. In music we used rhythm sticks to tap out various rhythms to music and we visited the computer suite again, learning how to use the mouse to click and drag, adding images to create a picture.
