Everybody looked incredible today. Thank you for all your effort in creating/organising such lovely costumes for the children. We had so much fun chatting about our book characters and enjoyed a special World Book Day assembly with Mr Hodges, reiterating the message for 2025 “Read your way”, encouraging children to find their own unique way of enjoying books and stories. As well as book day we have also celebrated pancake day this week. We learnt that pancake day is Shrove Tuesday and marks the beginning of a special time for Christians between now and Easter called Lent. We created an obstacle course in our outside area and held a pancake race, navigating the course holding a frying pan and pancake (beanbag) flipping it and catching it too! We enjoyed the story Mr Wolf’s pancakes and in maths we created a class bar chart representing our favourite pancake toppings.

We have also been continuing to practise our subitising skills and counting, re-visiting odd and even, looking at the two’s pattern, using “move it to prove it” on our tens frame to decide if the number is odd or even. In phonics we have learnt two new sounds ‘ow’ and ‘oi’ (clown, town, brown, coin, soil, boil) and a new tricky word, ‘here’. We have also started to talk about sentences, capital letters and full stops. In p.e. we have continued to work on our ball skills, which has been lots of fun. We have been moving the ball around our bodies with our hands and exploring different ways of controlling the ball with our hands whilst moving, keeping the ball close to our bodies.

St. Johns nursery, next door are incubating duck eggs, which is very exciting and they have asked if we would like to walk up and take a look. So next week, on Friday morning we are planning to pay them a visit. We will see the eggs, and then visit again once the eggs are hatched and meet the chicks. More details regarding this will follow.
